Festool 150mm.

Short answer: 150mm multi-hole discs, the pattern made for Festool's Multi-Jetstream 2 pad.

Not the 6-hole 6" discs sold for most other 6 inch sanders. Festool's own spec for the ST D150/MJ2 pad describes 48 suction holes that collect dust and move it into the exhaust air channels.

48-hole, 49-hole and multi-hole all describe the same thing.
Multi-hole discs made for this pad get sold under all three names depending on the seller. Ours are listed as 49-Hole. If you are looking at a 48-hole listing elsewhere and wondering whether it is the same pattern, it is.

Mirka owners, read this bit

Mirka's 150mm net grip pad is listed as a 48H pad in Mirka's own backing pad guide, which is the same multi-hole family. But Mirka ships more than one pad configuration for the DEROS. At least one supplier lists a 150mm DEROS plate with 28 holes.

So rather than guess: count the holes on your actual pad, or run our Ceramic Mesh 6" discs, which have no fixed pattern and work regardless. If you want a definitive answer for your exact machine, message us the model and we will sort it out.

Why 6-hole discs do not work here

The classic 6" pattern is six large holes near the edge. Multi-Jetstream is dozens of small holes spread across the face, feeding air channels moulded into the pad.

Fit a 6-hole disc to a Multi-Jetstream pad and you cover the channels. The airflow that the whole system is built around stops. On a Festool this is immediately obvious: the extraction note changes, dust starts escaping around the edge of the pad instead of through it, and the disc loads.

It goes the other way too. Multi-hole discs on a plain 6-hole pad are fine, because the six pad holes will always find open mesh above them. That asymmetry is why mesh and multi-hole discs are the safer thing to stock if your shop has mixed sanders.

If you are going to hard wax oil, stop at P150 or P180. Sanding past about P180 burnishes the fibers shut and the oil sits on top instead of soaking in, which is what makes a finish go patchy. Then use a non-woven white finishing pad, not a green scuff pad, to work it in.

A few things worth knowing

Is 48-hole the same as 49-hole?

For this pad, yes. Multi-hole discs for Festool's Multi-Jetstream 2 pattern are sold as 48-hole, 49-hole and multi-hole depending on the seller. Festool's own pad spec cites 48 suction holes. Ours are listed as 49-Hole and fit the same pad.

Will these fit a Festool RO 150 Rotex?

The RO 150 runs 150mm multi-hole abrasive, but it ships with more than one pad option. Count the holes on the pad that is on your machine, or run mesh and skip the question.

What about a Mirka DEROS?

Mirka's 150mm net grip pad is a 48H multi-hole pad, but Mirka offers more than one DEROS pad configuration. Count yours, or use our 6" mesh discs, which fit either way.

Can I use these on a 6 inch Bosch or Porter-Cable?

Yes, and this is the useful direction of the rule. A multi-hole disc works on a plain 6-hole pad because there is always an opening above each pad hole. The reverse does not work.
